Day 150 – Maple

When we bought our house there were three trees in the front yard. Two Dogwoods and one Japanese Maple. The Dogwoods were across from each other in the middle of the lawn. They were beautiful when they bloomed but difficult to mow around, they were pretty old, and over time they weren’t doing well so we ended up cutting them down.  Sad to see them go but after they were gone we realized how spectacular the Japanese Maple was that had been mostly hidden by them. It is at the corner of our front porch and I just love it and it’s leaves (except when I have to rake them :). I have a thing about looking up, and especially love looking through branches of trees, there is just something wonderful about it and I will truly miss this one when we move.

I am partial to Japanese Maples too, before we landscaped the garden we had a large fish pond, but due to commitment and also Tess having CF we chose to remove it and our gardener had all 32 fish off us for his ponds. I had though this idea of putting a Japanese Maple so it would grow over the fish pond and shelter the fish from the summer sun, now I need to come up with another idea ! 🙂

Love the colours in this, and how the hole almost looks like a heart. Great photo.

Thanks, I didn’t realize the heart shape when I took it but glad that happened, makes it more interesting.
